What is manga?

I had someone ask me, "What is manga?" I actually had trouble explaining what it was. From what I have read, there are 2 genres of manga, shojo and shonen. Shojo manga are basically cute romances that are normally read by girls, but men read them sometimes as well. Shonen manga are action manga, normally fiction. They were originally created in Japan and they are read right to left. They have pictures that are normally black and white, and there are many times shows created based off of the manga. Some of my recommendations of shojo manga are: Hana Kimi and Moe Kare. Some of my recommendations of shonen manga are: One piece, Bleach and D-gray man.

  2. Most manga are read right to left, up to down. In all comics or manga, it can be hard to tell which text bubble comes first. Just read them the same way you read the panels. Also, www.onemanga.com is a good manga site.

  3. WOW! I have never even heard of that before. Is it kind of like a comic book, but it is read right to left? It sounds kind of interesting. That would be cool if you put a link of it so other people would know what it looks like. Is that the only type of book you read? Is it a book or online? Thanks, sounds quite interesting!

  4. I don't know why, but I actually have never been such a big fan of comic books, mainly because I like to make my own images when I am reading. I have heard of Manga but I didn't know there were subcategories within it. But I am a huge fan of the kind of art. I love Hayao Miyazaki, he is a director for films like, Spirited Away, Castle in the Sky, Kiki's Delivery Service and many others.I love that kind of animated design which I assume is similar in the Manga books.
