1. Cross Over: a sports manga about a boy who dreams about being a professional basketball player and has a slight twist of romance.
2. The Great Santini: a hilarious book about a fighter piolet and his family, it's rough, but very heartwarming at times. Altogther, a good read. It's a fairly complex book with a lot vocabulary.
3. To Kill a Mocking Bird: A book about the lives of some kids in the south and how racism used to be in the south.
4. Kite Runner: A book about 2 boys growing up in Afghanistan. It's a laugh/cry kind of book.
5. Bleach: A manga about samurai who gaurd the afterlife, a very good series with very funny chapters.
6. Reborn: A crazy hitman baby teaches a kid to become a Mafia boss. (Hilarious)
7. Eureka 7: In a world where warfare is based off of wind, a middle-school kid wages war in a mecha, what more could you want?
8. Moe Kare: A story about a girl who dreams of having her own prince, gets attacked and saved by her, "perverted prince". This book is funny, but I recommend it only to people who really enjoy love stories. It's a Shojo manga.
9. Full Metal Alchemist: a Story about two kids who go though the traumatic death of their mother, then when they try to revive her with alchemy, she turns into a demon-like thing. It's also funny at times.
10. A Day in the Life Of a Part Time Indian: A book about a boy in an indian refugee camp who tries to fit in at a all white school. VERY funny, I recommend it to kids age 12-14
